"EPIC... Medieval Romance!" ~ Claire Delacroix, NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author
1192 A.D. – David de Lohr, the younger brother of the great Christopher de Lohr (RISE OF THE DEFENDER), is a man who has lived his entire life in his prestigious older brother’s shadow. While his brother was nicknamed “The Lion’s Claw” as the right hand of Richard the Lionheart, David was nicknamed “The Lion Cub” because of his youth.
But David is a force to be reckoned with. Lightning-fast with a sword, he is a knight of the highest order and worthy of his own great legacy. And so, the story of David de Lohr, the knight with the heart of steel, begins.
Newly returned from the Holy Land where he fought with the Christian armies, David returns to find that England is perhaps more dangerous that the sands of The Levant. At a grand tournament given by Richard’s brother, John, David finds himself entrenched in the danger of the politics of England. Mercenaries hired by the prince are posing as legitimate knights, trying to kill those loyal to Richard.
News of Richard’s disappearance on his way home from the Holy Land only feeds John’s lust for the throne. As he brings a mercenary army to England’s shores, David and his brother must combat this tide of evil. Politics and mayhem follow David wherever he goes.
But what David didn’t count on was the introduction of a lovely young woman, the daughter of the Earl of Canterbury. Casually acquainted at first, David must save Emilie Hampton from the prince’s clutches not once but several times, throwing Emilie and David together again and again. Emilie makes her feelings for David known but David, the confirmed bachelor, is terrified of his feelings for her. As the fight for Richard’s throne gains in intensity, David finds himself increasingly distracted by the lovely lady who has stolen his heart.
It’s politics, mystery, passion, and chaos for David and Emilie as they try to find their way in a world that would see the two lovers torn apart.
The de Lohr Dynasty can all be read as stand-alones, but the chronological order is
While Angels Slept
Rise of the Defender
Steelheart
Shadowmoor
Silversword
Spectre of the Sword
Unending Love
Archangel
Steelheart de Lohr Dynasty Book 3 edition by Kathryn Le Veque Romance eBooks
l have read well over 60 books by this author and this just didn't seem like her work, as another reviewer stated. I disliked the first part of the book,, because if you read Rise of the Defender a lot is repeat of the happenings from Chris (brother to our H) point of view. Of course, the author does tell us that at the beginning of this story. I barely could finish ROTD and this was the same. Not only are there many typo's, but thoughts are out of order several times that it was very confusing. There is very little romance in this story because our H/h are apart so much. Similar to the ROTD, another man is interested in the same women as our H and causes all kinds of strife.
Be warned, the Lord's name is taken in vain many times. There is one lovemaking scene outside of marriage and mildly described. Since I didn't feel a connection to this couple, it wasn't passionate at all.
I also felt the language was too modern and the depth of the character's lacking. There are many other works by this author that are so much better than this. (ljb)

Steelheart de Lohr Dynasty Book 3 edition by Kathryn Le Veque Romance eBooks Reviews
I am an avid fan of Ms. Le Veque's novels and was thrilled to finally read David's and Emillie's story. Though most all of Kathryn's novels are stand alones, you need to read "Rise of the Defender" first before reading "Steelheart". I have noticed a few negative comments and I would ignore them as you can tell most of these reviewers have not read Christopher and Dustins story in "Defender" and it is an epic novel that will help readers understand more of David's and Emillie's complicated love story. It takes a very strong woman to love a man that keeps leaving her and this one will pull at your heartstrings! Ms. Le Veque writes historically accurate novels that are epic and each one a unique original story.
You know I have been anticipating this newest book from Ms. Kathryn Le Veque because I was so ready to read another story of the great de Lohr's. Yes, I didn’t really care for the other book rise of the defender because not only way there a side male protagonist I couldn’t stand and it was just one big messy medieval soap opera with some very immature childish, selfish characters but I figured this book would be an improvement over rise of the defender. I did have to agree it was somewhat better. Maybe because the male protagonist was a side character in the rise of the defender and I didn’t really understand him or much less like him. I am glad to read this book and do have to warn others that when reading this book it might be helpful to read rise of the defender and perhaps they would take pure enjoyment of this book if both books were combined in one massive book then readers might really appreciate this story.
David de Lohr youngest brother of the great Christopher de Lohr is known throughout the land as one of the greatest knights in King Richard the lion heart’s arsenal known as the lion’s claw while David is overshadowed by Christopher’s greatness. David due to his youth is known as the lion’s cub but is a great knight as well. Unfortunately King Richard is taken hostage and while David tries to save Richard runs into Emilie while also saving her and the attraction is instant but David not only must fight an evil Prince’s henchman, a French mercenary plus another suitor to win Emilie’s love and hand. Can David win Emilie over plus fight his aversion to marriage and love while war, loss plus other troubles could prevent them.
What can I say about David well besides that yes he’s Christopher’s younger brother. In a sense I felt sorry for him he just has a lot to live up too. I got the sense that David is poorly misunderstood really a paradox yet quite complex. Yes, he was hotheaded, brash, stubborn and impetuous always running into things but yet running away from everything. I did get slightly annoyed several times at how he ran from everything including Emilie even though he saves her many times. I seriously wondered what his problem was what’s with all the running. I just had to take that he was pretty immature and was scared of what he was feeling. In his later books that I have read about him I had a much better sense of him and yes he did eventually grow up. I did like Emilie though yes she was young and very naïve but she seemed more mature than David at least she didn’t run from anything. I did dislike the way Emilie treated Brickley and I so wanted him to have a much better end what’s wrong with him ending up with Nathalie. What about Elise does she ever grow out of her ways I sure hope not. I still enjoyed the book and despite my rating of four stars I can recommend it and will definitely get more books from Ms. Le Veque!
This story is uniquely written. Rise of the Defender was the story of Christopher De Lohr and Dustin, but David De Lohr, Christopher's brother, was a very strong character in their story. Steelheart revisits the same time line of Rise of the Defender but tells of David's side of the story and his growing relationship with Emilie. I think that if you had not read Rise of the Defender first you may not fully appreciate Chris and Dustin's story or David's for that matter. I myself have read Rise of the Defender 3 times and listened to it twice, so I know it by heart, David and Emilie's story was just a bonus to me. I always want more of the story and Kathryn Le Veque accommodated my wish. My advice would be to read Rise of the Defender first and then enjoy David and Emilie's story!
