Allison pens "The Sky Pirate's Wife" in a plot hooks you in from the start. Adventures with mythical creatures, and romance fill the pages that will keep you turning till the end. The characters were very well developed and will stay with you long after your finished reading. Highly recommended for all romance, adventure fans.

I'd never read steampunk until I read Allison's first book, The Treasure Hunter's Lady. I'm hooked! The Sky Pirate's Wife is even better than the first book and will have you searching the skies for impending danger! This book stuck with me for days after reading it. I loved Alwin and Sophie's unconventional beginning. I can't wait for the next one. Oh, and I want an AIRSHIP!

Like others, I met Allison Merritt with The Treasure Hunter's Lady, a book on my keeper shelf. I couldn't wait to read The Sky Pirate's Wife, and I wasn't disapointed. Alwin and Sophie have a forced union that quickly turns to love. They fight someone, or is it something, out to destroy thier airship company, and fall in love along the way. I don't want to give too much away, but the intrigue and danger in this book somtimes made my skin prickle.

I devoured this book! I didn't expect to like it that much, but in truth, I couldn't put the book down! I was hooked after the first chapter and I had to admit that Captain Alwin Van Burden made me swoon at every turn.
Last year, I read the first book in this series The Treasure Hunter's Lady, and I enjoyed it, but the author Allison Merritt blown me away with this second historical romance spiced up with paranormal creatures and situations.
The Sky Pirate's Wife is a fast-paced novel, the plot is less interesting than the first story, probably because it's less exploited than the first book, but I think it add sense to the whole story. I was more interesting in Alwin and Sophia building romance than the plot itself and Ms. Merritt gives me just what I needed!
I loved Sophia's character. She was the perfect representation of the rich heiress of this era she knows where her place is, even if she's rich, she truly understands what men and society wants from her getting married, leave her wealth to her husband and making heir. Sophia Barnes, the only heiress of the Barnes Airship company, doesn't expect more than this until she encounter the Captain Alwin Van Buren.
Alwin is a great Captain, he know the rules and doesn't take a no as an answer. He is the leader, the master on board and nothing can take this from him, except his Airship company rival. The last thing he wants is to find a wife, but after seeing the beautiful Sophia, he might change his mind.
Well these two are creating more than one thing, but most of all its electrifying sparks! Their attraction is irremediable, even if they both know that they shouldn't feel these feelings. But destiny always brings you what you need, even if it's not what you want!

Proserpine Recommendation If you like Historical Romance mixed up with paranormal aspect, this series is for you! You don't need to have read the first book, but I suggest you to do it. There's some reference to it but no enough for you to not understand the series. Buy-Borrow, put on your TBR-pile!
Somewhat Predictable but Very entertaining
This is a great read. I was hooked from the first page to the last. Vivid discriptions made me feel like I was riding along with Alwin and Sophie in their air ship. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.
As with book one in the series, I was sucked in from the start. We meet up with the gruff giant Captain who I seemed to form a soft spot for in the first book. The adventure starts from the very beginning on the deck of Alwin's airship.
We are once again thrown into a world were mythical creatures from Native American lore exist and are bent on Alwin's destruction. At a particularly vulnerable point, he meets the heroine, Sophie, and things kick off from there. The couple soon finds themselves dealing with consequences that result in a rushed marriage.
Personally, I loved this book. I'm "Team van Buren" all the way. In my opinion, Alwin is such a stellar hero. He's such a gruff, large man whose usual countenance is a scowl, but he's quite a bit of a charmer when he wants to be, especially with his little Sophie. In addition, he has such a protective, gentle nature when he's dealing with Sophie. Gotta love that about a hero. Not to mention, when a hero is ready to risk life and limb for his lady love, I'm sold.
Something else that really stood out for me in this book was the heroine. She's a bit more feminine and refined, but she's never whiney, shallow or insipid. Sophie was quite a memorable heroine for me. She really was such a sweetheart and would do anything for Alwin, despite the circumstances that bound them together. But it was nice to see she didn't allow him run all over her. In fact, she held her own with Alwin quite well. The pair were well suited and deserved each other.
